We are Michael & Tamara Bonnar McPhee – brother & sister from Bodybarn.com, a premier hair, beauty & holistic salon.

We have friends who have to live with Multiple Sclerosis and feel we would like to do our bit to help… so, we are going to join other MS Trust charity fundraisers to cycle from London to Paris

This will take place

13 – 16 June 2012

The London to Paris cycle ride is a challenge of a lifetime, connecting two of the world’s most chic capital cities and covering over 300 miles over four days. Cycling through beautiful English villages and into the stunning countryside of rural France, the ride culminates in an unforgettable mass arrival through the boulevards of Paris.

ITINERARY

DAY 1 – WEDNESDAY

LONDON TO CALAIS – APPROX 150 KM

Our challenge begins bright and early from Crystal Palace heading south en route to the coast. Our long journey today takes us through rural Kent – the garden of England. Our path winds through traditional British countryside, along the North Downs way before we reach the white cliffs of Dover. The ferry takes us across to Calais and our first night’s resting place.

DAY 2 – THURSDAY

CALAIS TO ABBEVILLE – APPROX 120 KM

La belle France! Stunning picturesque countryside awaits us in northern France as we travel south through some beautiful quaint villages – do not be surprised to be greeted with a Bonjour Monsieur/Madame as you cycle through! Cycle through Desvres, a market town known for its ceramics and continue with the windy roads along the valley of the Canche River. The Artois region is amazing with the Spanish influenced town of Hesdin and its tremendous architecture and close proximity to the battle of Agincourt. We spend the night in Abbeville – steeped in history from the war and despite being destroyed in just one night it has managed to retain its beautiful gothic church.

DAY 3 – FRIDAY

ABBEVILLE TO BEAUVAIS – APPROX 110 KM

Our route this morning follows the river Somme out of Abbeville. The Somme is perhaps most famous for its battles and you cannot fail to be reminded of the thousands who lost their lives in the war. But Somme is also a Celtic word meaning tranquility … so summing up the feeling of the day as you cycle through this superb region. After lunch you can enjoy the countryside with a little less ‘undulations’ than the previous days. We finish the day in Beauvais where the market square, Place de l’Hotel de Ville, is a true highlight. Several of the houses close to the Cathedral date back from the twelfth to the sixteenth centuries.

DAY 4 – SATURDAY

BEAUVAIS TO PARIS – APPROX 95 KM

Our final day of cycling and the big push to Paris, our final destination. We are still treated to some stunning countryside including a lovely lunchtime in a wooded area next to the River Oise. After lunch we near the outskirts of Paris and you will start to spot the familiar sights of the Eiffel Tower and the River Seine. We rendezvous in a park just north of Paris before joining together to cycle the last miles along some of the famous boulevards. Our finish point can be seen for miles above the Paris skyline and on arrival the celebration can begin!

The Bodybarn have been through their fair share of makeup brands, but now we are really pleased with our latest addition to The Bodybarn collection of quality products… BOBBI BROWN makeup.

This range is very popular with our photographic and wedding makeups. We do not carry a retail stock but advise our clients to visit Bobbi Brown retailers John Lewis where the Bobbi Brown assistants are eager to help and advise on their products.

Bobbi Brown herself offers great makeup tips and advice on her website. Here’s an interesting article by Bobbi Brown:

Concealer is my ‘desert island’ cosmetic – I wouldn’t dream of living without it. More than lipstick or mascara, concealer is the one product that I feel most dramatically improves the way you look. When applied correctly, it instantly makes you appear awake and refreshed, no matter what’s going on in the outside world.

Covering Up Dark Circles

What You’ll Need:

To conceal dark circles, you’ll need a yellow-based creamy concealer, in one shade lighter than your natural skin tone. This colour masks the blue discoloration and brightens the skin. If you’re extremely fair, a porcelain-toned concealer will work.

If you’re lucky and you need very little coverage, a stick foundation one to two shades lighter than the rest of your face can double as your concealer.

If you have extreme darkness, use a corrector. Peach or pink in colour, a corrector counteracts the purple or green tones underneath the eyes that a concealer can’t cover on its own. If your skin is pale, choose the lightest colours, starting with bisque or light pink. For deeper skin tones, choose a medium or dark peach.

How To Do It:

Apply a light eye cream underneath the eye area. It should absorb quickly and leave your skin feeling smooth.

If you’re using a corrector, use a concealer brush or your fingertip to apply it at the inner corner of the eye. Continue placing the corrector underneath the eye, staying close to the lashes and patting the corrector wherever your see darkness. Gently blend the corrector by pressing it with your fingers. You’re now ready to apply your concealer.

Use a concealer brush or your index finger to apply the concealer in thin layers. Be sure to blend well.

Apply the concealer all the way up to your lash line and – this part is critical – onto the dark areas by the inner corners of your eyes.

Use more concealer than you think you need, and blend it into the skin, using your fingers in a soft, patting motion.

If you still see dark circles, go ahead and apply a second layer of concealer.

To the lock the concealer into place, apply pale yellow powder over the concealer and on the eyelids with a powder puff.

Concealing a Blemish

How to do it:

Apply a lightweight moisturiser to smooth your skin and prime it for perfect makeup application.

Using a concealer brush, apply a stick foundation or cover-up stick onto the blemish, making sure that the shade matches your skin exactly. Don’t use your under eye concealer on a blemish. Because concealer is designed to be one shade lighter than the skin on the rest of your face, a bright, light spot of concealer on a blemish will look awkward and out of place against your complexion.

Finish by using a powder puff to apply a small amount of face powder onto the blemish. This locks your cover-up in place.

Concealing a Scar

How to do it:
First, you have to understand that it may not be entirely possible to cover up the scar 100%. But, you can make it less noticeable with makeup.

Apply a lightweight moisturiser to smooth your skin and prime it for perfect makeup application.

Next, apply concealer or a creamy foundation directly onto the scar using a concealer brush or your fingers, and set with your skin-tone correct foundation.

Finish by using a powder puff to apply powder, locking the foundation in place.

Diffusing Wrinkles

How to do it:
Ultra-rich moisturisers and creamy makeup formulas are the key to getting smooth-looking skin.

Be sure to exfoliate on a regular basis with a gentle scrub or an AHA cream. This helps stimulate cell turnover and sloughs off dead skin cells, which can make skin look dull and prevent your foundation from going on smoothly.

Make sure your skin is well hydrated. A great moisturiser literally plumps up your skin.

Stick to creamy formulas of concealer, foundations and blush. Powder can settle into wrinkles, making them more visible.

No one has wrinkles on their cheeks, so play them up with a little extra blush.

If you have lines around your lips, keep the area moist. Try using a lip balm on and around the lip area and don’t try to conceal the wrinkles with foundation. Instead, pick a creamy lipstick and matching lip pencil to prevent feathering.

TROUBLESHOOTING: Corrector or Concealer

Your concealer and corrector should be undetectable. If they aren’t, you’ll have to tweak your application method. Here are some common concealer and corrector problems and my time-tested solutions for solving them.

If it looks crepey
The thin skin underneath your eyes needs to be hydrated, since makeup settles into those tiny dryness lines. Remember to apply eye cream every night and every morning before your makeup application.

If it slips off
You’ve likely applied too much moisturiser beforehand. Keep your concealer and corrector on for longer by using less than a pea-sized amount of moisturiser, and then waiting until it fully absorbs before applying your makeup.

If it creases
It needed to be set with enough powder. After applying your concealer, sweep sheer loose powder over the under eye area to lock your makeup into place.

If it’s cakey or streaky
Your ratio of eye cream to concealer is off. If your concealer looks thick and muddy, you’ll need to apply more eye cream. If your concealer looks greasy and separated, you’ve applied too much eye cream. Add or remove product as necessary. (You may have to start from scratch.)

If it’s too light
Very carefully, use the lightest dusting of light bronzing powder to warm up the area.

If it’s not bright enough or if it’s too dark
Add a tiny dab of fast-absorbing eye cream, and then re-apply your corrector and concealer.

If your eye makeup falls onto your concealer
You’ll have to start over. Use eye makeup remover, a cotton swab, or a makeup sponge to carefully remove all under-eye product. Then pat on your eye cream, let it absorb, and re-apply your corrector and concealer.

We DO wax: back | chest | arms | legs - We DON’T wax: intimate areas

Male Waxing Advice?

Men tend to have courser, curlier and thicker hair than women. So making sure you are well informed before embarking on some serious male waxing, here are a few points to consider.

• Because male hair is courser, men can experience white heads. These are small pimples or a rash that lasts for a few days. This mostly occurs in the chest, back and groin area. This is caused by bacteria that enters the open follicle especially during and after perspiration.

• Make sure you wash as soon as possible after a work out with a loafer and an anti bacterial wash which contains Tea Tree (we recommend ESPA Tea Tree Gel). Using a loafer & an anti bacterial Tea Tree wash & lotion will help clear the area of dead skin & sweat build up. This will also minimize the potential for rashes, itchiness, ingrown hairs and pimples.

• Make sure with any treatments you book yourself in ask for the therapist to explain the after care methods and lotions you may require after your treatment to make sure you get the best results out of your waxing service.

• Adhering to these after care procedures will ensure that you achieve maximum results by ensuring that your freshly waxed skin looks healthy and lasts longer with minimal irritation. So please follow these instructions like it’s a new regime and you will be delighted with the results!

What is a Bodybarn.com Brazilian Waxing?

To some people it might be a strip, shape or triangle left – this would be our “Brief”. To us a Brazilian waxing is the hair removal in and around the perineum vagina and anus… in other words “all off”.

How long does a Brazilian waxing take?

Depending on the density of the hair growth, your waxing appointment will take between 30-50 minutes, for first timers we allow 60 minutes. A little painful, yes, but with swift strong hands and an efficient therapist by your side, it will be over very quickly, the results are well worth it. We do a fair amount of Brazilians each month. Your therapist will comfort and consult with you to find out how bare you want to go, and we will work within those guidelines. Not everyone goes “all the way” the first time.

When is the best time to have a Brazilian Wax?

The best time is to be waxed about a week after your menstrual cycle, try to avoid caffeine, nicotine, lack of sleep and stress as these can make you feel over sensitive during your treatment.

How long will the waxing results last?

After a client’s first waxing, the results can last 3 to 6 weeks depending on the individual’s hair re-growth rate. In most cases, hair growth is minimal during the first week or two and noticeably increases in the third and fourth week. Heat stimulates the hair, therefore hair grows quicker in the summer months than in the winter. With regular waxing the length of time between treatments will increase. Continued regular waxing results in sparse hair re-growth over time.

Every Bodybarn salon client is asked to complete a medical questionnaire with our their therapist prior to treatment. People with these conditions should avoid massage:

Heart failure

Kidney failure

Infection of the superficial veins (called phlebitis) or soft tissue (called cellulitis) in the legs or elsewhere

Blood clots in the legs

Bleeding disorders

Contagious skin conditions

If you have cancer, check with your doctor before considering massage because massage can damage tissue that is fragile from chemotherapy or radiation treatments. People with rheumatoid arthritis, goiter (a thyroid disorder characterized by an enlarged thyroid), eczema, and other skin lesions should not receive massage therapy during flare-ups. Experts also advise that people with osteoporosis, high fever, few platelets or white blood cells, and mental impairment, as well as those recovering from surgery, should avoid massage. Check with your doctor.

Tell our massage therapist about any medications you are taking, as massage may influence absorption or activity of both oral and topical medications.
